Wayne B. Johannsen

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Wayne B. Johannsen, 87, of Belleville, IL, born Oct. 4, 1921 in San Antonio, TX, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, IL.


Wayne served in the United States Air Force for 23 years and also retired from the civil service as a flight planner for Medical Evacuation. He was a member of the Scott AFB Officer’s Club and a WW II Air Force veteran.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Rena, nee Homme, Johannsen; and his wife, Marie E., nee Postel, Johannsen, whom he married in Mascoutah, IL on June 19, 1947, and who died on Dec. 12, 2008.


He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Kendell of Peoria, IL; and a brother, Walter D. (Doris) Johannsen of Swansea, IL.


Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Visitation: Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:00 am Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at the Espenschied Chapel in the Mascoutah City Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.


Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at the Espenschied Chapel with Rev. Jason Woolever officiating. Burial will be in the Mascoutah City Cemetery.
