Daniel C. Schaefer

Daniel C. Schaefer, 62, of Belleville, IL, born Sept. 28, 1947 in Belleville, IL, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville.


Danny was a sheet metal worker for E. M. Wiegmann, Hubbell, Inc. in Freeburg, IL for 39 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 2910 in Bloomington, IL; former member of the Mascoutah and Freedom Farm American Legions, and member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 202. He served in the US Army, 9th Infantry Division, during the Vietnam War, and was a Bronze Star with Four Clusters and Purple Heart recipient.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Ada, nee Humphries, Schaefer.


He is survived by his wife, Karen, nee Shipp, Schaefer, whom he married in Mascoutah, IL on July 25, 1970; two daughters, Marsha (Mark) Flamm of Yakima, WA, and Danielle (David) Keim of Millstadt, IL; four grandchildren, Alexi Schaefer of Fort Riley, KS, Samantha Keim of Millstadt, IL, and William and Isabel Flamm of Yakima, WA; four sisters, Joyce (Robert) Ernst of Belleville, IL, Mary (Robert) Bruns of Shiloh, IL, Madella (David) Dodson of Springdale, AK, and Lisa (Clarence) Nikolauzyk of Fayetteville, IL; two brothers, David Schaefer of Mascoutah, IL, and Ray Schaefer of Fayetteville, IL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Diane (Lonnie) Casey of Mascoutah, IL, Mary Bartholomew of Mascoutah, IL, and Jerry (Carol) Vonderheide of Swansea, IL; several nieces and nephews.


Daniel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle.


Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.


Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 PM Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.


Funeral: A funeral mass will be held 10 AM Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 at the Holy Childhood Catholic Church with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein officiating. Military graveside services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
