Charles Henry "Shorty" Garner

Charles Henry “Shorty” Garner, 80, of Mascoutah, IL, born July 25, 1929 in Mascoutah, IL, died Saturday, Apr. 3, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.


Shorty was a retired Lt. Commander from the U. S. Navy, and also retired from Rock Island Railroad. He was a member of Mascoutah Masonic Lodge #361 AF & AM; a graduate of MCHS, a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia; and a U. S. Navy Korean and Vietnam War veteran


He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Viola, nee Wilmsmeyer, Garner; and his second wife, Mildred Garner.


He is survived by four children, Karen (Terry) Castle of Shenandoah, IA, John Henry Garner II of Manchester, MO, Miriam (Donald) Adsitt of Benton City, WA, and Allen (Jing) Garner of Clifton Park, NY; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Deutschman of Swansea, IL, and Janet (Wilmer) Krausz of Belleville, IL; an aunt, Ella Mugele of New Baden, IL; several nieces and nephews; his first wife, Charmaine Garner, third wife, Marie Garner; and dear friend, Eunice Wahl of Mascoutah, IL.


Memorials may be made to the American Lung Assn. of Illinois, 3000 Kelly Lane, Springfield, IL 62711, or to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc., 305 S. Illinois St., Belleville, IL 62220, or to any charity of choice.


Visitation: from 4 to 9 PM Tuesday, Apr. 6, 2010 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. A Masonic service will be held at 7 PM at the funeral home on Tuesday evening.


Funeral: funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, Apr. 7, 2010 at the Moll Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Feldmann officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
