George J. Wesselmann, Jr.

George J. Wesselmann, Jr., 69, of Mascoutah, IL, born Oct. 9, 1940 in Pierron, IL, died Wednesday, Apr. 14, 2010 at his residence after a short battle with cancer.


George started out in the Banking Industry and rose to the position of an officer at an early age. Because of his ability and aptitude with computer systems, he became the Data Processing Director at Optimist International. After his retirement, George worked for Mascoutah School District 19.


He was a member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah; Knights of Columbus Council 4380, Mascoutah; Mascoutah Moose Lodge 815; and he served in the U. S. Army Reserves.


He was preceded in death by his parents, George J., Sr. and Catherine, nee Boeing, Wesselmann; a brother Robert Wesselmann; and a sister Ann Lang.


He is survived by his wife, Karen D., nee Ohlendorf, Wesselmann whom he married at Holy Childhood Church in Mascoutah on May 18, 1963; three sons, Barry (Carolyn) Wesselmann of St. Libory, IL, Gary (Norma) Wesselmann of Chesterfield, IL, and Brad (Chelsea) Wesselmann of Waterloo, IL; a daughter, Barbara Wesselmann of Mascoutah, IL; eight grandchildren, Talia, Tianna, Brianna, James, Dana, Matthew, Derek, and Alayna; two brothers, Richard Wesselmann of California, and Edward (Shirley) Wesselmann of Freeburg, IL; three sisters, Sister Florence Wesselmann, SSND, and Sister Miriam Wesselmann, SSND of St. Louis, MO, Patricia (Everett) Kassing of Freeburg, IL; brother-in-law, Joseph Lang of Mascoutah, IL; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wesselmann of Atlanta, GA, and Janice (Bob) Shirlaw of Georgetown, CO; numerous nieces and nephews.


Memorials may be made to Holy Childhood School, or to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc.


Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 PM Friday, Apr. 16, 2010 and 7:30 to 9:30 AM Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. There will be a prayer service at 4 PM Friday afternoon at the funeral home.


Funeral: A funeral mass will be held 10 AM Saturday, Apr. 17, 2010 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
