John O. Riess

John O. Riess, 84 of Mascoutah, IL, born Jan. 27, 1926 in Mascoutah, IL, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, IL.


John was a retired machinist from IDEAL Stencil in Bellville, IL where he worked for 34 years. He was a member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church, Mascoutah; International Association of Machinists Local 353; Knights of Columbus Council 4380, Mascoutah; lifetime member of the Mascoutah Sportsman’s Club.


He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Adelia, nee Rist, Riess, two sisters, Marie Graul and Georgiana Graul and a daughter-in-law, Kay Riess.


He is survived by his wife, Kathrine L., nee Steehlinger whom he married in Edwardsville, IL on July 17, 1951; two daughters, Deanne Faye Riess and Theresa (Dale) Friederich, both of Belleville, IL; four sons, Mark Riess of Mascoutah, IL, Paul Riess of Mascoutah, IL, Larry (Bitzy) Riess of Bates City, MO and Michael (Linda) Riess of Lively Grove, IL; eight grandchildren, Clarissa, Christine, Nichole, Derek, Grant, Grace, Tukker and Abby; also survived by a sister-in-law, Shirley Moore and nieces and nephews.


Memorials may be made to the Holy Childhood Memorial Improvement Fund.


Visitation: from 4 to 8 PM Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. There will be a prayer service 4:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.


Funeral: a funeral mass will be held 10 AM Friday, May 21, 2010 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery.
