Floyd E. Kessler

Floyd E. Kessler, 82, of Mascoutah, IL, born Aug. 23, 1927 in Freeburg Township, IL, died Friday, July 30, 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL.


He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Freeburg, IL; American Legion Post 550, Freeburg, IL; St. Clair County Farm Bureau; Disabled American Veterans; and was a US Army Korean War veteran, POW, and a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient.


He was preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Augusta, nee Vollmer, Kessler; an infant brother; and a brother-in-law, Virgil Klotz.


He is survived by his wife, Anita H., nee Perschbacher, Kessler whom he married in Belleville, IL on Sept. 10, 1950; five children, Susan (Elmer) Frentzel of Troy, MO, Helen (John) Vidmar of Mt. Vernon, IL, Jeanine Eckenrode of Palm Springs, CA, John Kessler of Belleville, IL, and Ann (Michael) Lossau of Freeburg, IL; four grandchildren, Stephanie Heser, Trina (Deric) Brookman, Adam Grueninger, and Catherine Grueninger; two sisters, Bernice Klotz of Freeburg, IL, and Marilyn (Wayne) Feig of New Athens, IL; nieces, nephews, and cousins.


Memorials may be made to the Freeburg American Legion Post 550, or to Family Hospice.


Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL, and from 9 to 10 AM Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 at the church. An American Legion Post 550 ceremony will be held at 7 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home.


Funeral: Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Freeburg, IL with Rev. Herbert Schafale officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, IL.
