Robert E. Johnson, 79, of Mascoutah, IL, born Apr. 15, 1931 in Marion, IN, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL.


Bob began his military career serving in the US Navy and then transferring to the US Air Force where he retired as a Tech Sergeant. He was a Korean and Vietnam War veteran. He then went to work as a welder for Wiegman Electric in Freeburg, IL, retiring after 20 years. He was a former member of the Mascoutah Sportsman’s Club and the Mascoutah Moose Lodge.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Pauline, nee Wayman, Johnson; a son, Dennis Johnson, a granddaughter, Kelly Johnson; a son-in-law, Gordon Goodman; and a sister, Jorene Weidendorf.


He is survived by his wife, Virginia M., nee Pfeiffer, Johnson whom he married in Waynesdale, IN on Sept. 19, 1952; five children, Denise (Gene) Gove of Mascoutah, IL, Allen (Vicky) Johnson of Mascoutah, IL, Robert (Kris) Johnson of Knoxville, TN, Kathleen (Angelo) Johnson-Walters of Anchorage, AK, and Bradley (Suzanna) Johnson of Belleville, IL; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Eric) Johns, Adam, Lawton, Connor, Cameron, Daniel, Ryan, Elliot, and Kaitlyn Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Niven, Alec, Nicholas, and Madison; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.


Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assn., or to Family Hospice of Belleville.


Visitation: Friends may call from 9 AM to 12 noon Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.


Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at the Moll Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Mascoutah City Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
