Richard M. Graul, 90, of Mascoutah, IL, born May 29, 1920 in Engelmann Township, IL, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL.


Rich was a retired operator from the City of Mascoutah’s power plant. In his earlier years he was a part-time police officer for the City of Mascoutah, and he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for several years.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary, nee Perschbacher, Graul; his wife, Marie, nee Riess, Graul, whom he married in Mascoutah, IL on Nov. 11, 1943 and who died Mar. 9, 2003; four sisters, Irene Mitchell, Henrietta Guillaume, Loretta Knapp, and Virginia Schaefer; and three brothers, Alfred, Charles, and George Graul.


He is survived by three sons and a daughter, James (Debbie) Graul of Falmouth, ME, Jerome (Shauna) Graul of San Clemente, CA, John (Cindy) Graul of Santa Monica, CA, and Judith Kilgore of Dayton, OH; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Cathey of Walla Walla, WA.


Memorials may be made to any charity of the donors’ choice.


Richard donated his body to the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.


A memorial service will be held at a later date.
