Terry M. Plab, 75, of Mascoutah, IL, born Aug. 12, 1935 in Belleville, IL, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 at his residence in the Assisted Living Facility at Silver Creek.
Mr. Plab was retired from farming and also from the City of Mascoutah as a police dispatcher and power plant operator. Terry was a member of St. Martin of Tours Lutheran Church in Mascoutah and was past president of the Daycare Center at St. Martin of Tours; past president of the Mascoutah Evening Lions Club and received Lion of the Year Award; served eight years on the Mascoutah School Board District 19 being the youngest member ever elected; member of St. Clair County Farm Bureau; president of the Little Leaguers in Clinton County and Mascoutah; past Commissioner of Mascoutah Little League; he umpired baseball for high schools and colleges; managed baseball teams for years in Mascoutah leagues. Terry started his own slow pitch softball team and guided them to many tournaments and wins. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1954, but serious injuries caused an abrupt end to his career. One year later Terry came back to play Southern Illinois and Greater County League Baseball where he established the best win and loss record ever recorded in the leagues, 259 wins and 59 losses. For his accomplishment, Terry was inducted into the Southern Illinois Hall of Fame in 1995.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobart and Florence, nee Klingelhoefer, Plab; and a brother, Roger Plab.
He is survived by two sons, David Plab of Lebanon, IL and Darrin (Debra) Plab of Mascoutah, IL; three daughters, Deanna Plab, Angela Neumer and Barbara (Howard) Smotkin all of St. Louis, MO; six grandchildren, Dawson and Derek Plab, Michael, Lauren, Emily and Julia Smotkin, a sister-in-law, Lenora Plab, nieces, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.
Funeral: A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Monday, Oct. 25, 2010 at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein officiating. A private burial will be in Mascoutah City Cemetery following cremation.
