Henry A. “Hank” Bechtoldt, 85, of Mascoutah, IL, born Jan. 24, 1925 in Belleville, IL passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010.
He was a machinist at Obear-Nester Glass Co. and later retired from Stag Brewery. He also was active in farming for over 65 years. Henry enjoyed the outdoors, farming, and the family’s garden. He had a great love of family and God.
He was a member of Holy Childhood Church, K of C Council 4380, Mascoutah and Machinist Local 353.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hilda S., nee Cordie, Bechtoldt, and two brothers, Elmer and Cletus Bechtoldt.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, nee Becherer, Bechtoldt whom he married in Belleville, IL Aug. 18, 1959; six children, David Bechtoldt of Mascoutah, IL and dear friend, Carolyn Rueter, Christopher (Cindy) Bechtoldt of Venedy, IL, Stephen (Kathleen) Bechtoldt of Mascoutah, IL, Mary (Mark) Elmore of Mascoutah, IL, Juliann (Leon) Zyk of DuBois, IL, Susan Taylor of Fairview Heights, IL and dear friend Chad Pyle; 11 grandchildren, Anthony Bechtoldt, Christopher, Jennifer and Ryan Bechtoldt, Jacob and Jessica Bechtoldt, Alexander, Amanda and Joshua Elmore and Hannah and Sarah Zyk; two brothers, Raymond (Lucille) Bechtoldt of Portland, OR, Robert (Lenore) Bechtoldt of Belleville, IL; four sisters, Marie Zimmerman of Lebanon, IL, Rita (Eugene) Wilhelm of Lebanon, IL, Catherine (Edwin) Pingsterhaus of Germantown, IL, Rosemary Bechtoldt of Belleville, IL, also survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Mederi Caretenders and the staff of Heartland Hospice for their loving care.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Childhood Catholic School, Mascoutah, IL or St. Ann Catholic School, Nashville, IL.
Visitation: from 4 to 9 PM Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. There will be a prayer service 4:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral: a funeral mass will be held 10 AM Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery.
