Dorothy E. Lanter

April 9, 1928 — January 25, 2011

Dorothy E. Lanter, nee Zinck, 82, of Belleville, IL, formerly of Mascoutah, IL, born Apr. 9, 1928 in Mascoutah Township, IL, left life as she lived life – gracefully and surrounded by all seven children and several grandchildren – on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine, Belleville, IL.


Dorothy was a retired cook from Mascoutah School District 19; member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah where she and her husband Joe were greeters; member of St. Ann’s Altar Sodality(HCCCW); Holy Childhood Quilters; Holy Childhood Mother’s Club; Holy Childhood School cafeteria worker; and helped with the Holy Childhood bingos for many years


She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Lanter who she married in Mascoutah, IL on Nov. 17, 1948 and who died Aug. 5, 2003; and her parents, Elmer and Theckla, nee Butz, Zinck.


She is survived by seven children, Robert (Diane) Lanter of Swansea, IL, Lawrence Lanter of Mascoutah, IL, Ronald Lanter of Mascoutah, IL, Sharon (Michael) McFalls of Madison, AL, Dr. Yvonne (Rick) Johnson of Channahon, IL, Kenneth Lanter and friend Nicole Miller of Webster Groves, MO, and Connie (Dennis Best) Lanter of Madison, WI; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harvey (Rose) Zinck of Lively Grove, IL, Ralph Zinck of Belleville, IL, and Norbert (Dona) Zinck of Nashville, IL; nieces and nephews.


More than anything, Dorothy loved taking care of others, including her husband and large family. She and Joe enjoyed dancing, gardening, euchre playing, laughing and eating Dorothy’s home cooking with family and friends.


In lieu of all other gifts, memorials may be made to the Holy Childhood Memorial Improvement Fund; TIP Hospice, or Alzheimer’s Assn.


Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 PM Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. A prayer service will be held at 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.


Funeral: A funeral Mass will be held 10 AM Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein and Deacon Bob Lanter officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
