Leroy Klingel

Leroy Klingel, 93, of Mascoutah, IL, born Aug. 17, 1917 in Mascoutah Twp., IL, died Sunday, Apr. 17, 2011 at his residence.


Mr. Klingel owned and operated a fleet of school buses providing transportation for students of the surrounding area to all Mascoutah Schools, including Holy Childhood Catholic School, from 1938 until 1974, when he sold the business to the Mascoutah School District and served as transportation director until 1982.


He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Mascoutah; a 50 year member of the American Legion Post 292, Mascoutah, a member of Mascoutah Sportsman’s Club, and a charter member of the Illinois School Bus Contractors Association.


Mr. Klingel was a WW II U. S. Army Air Corp veteran, serving in the China Burma India Theatre.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary, nee Linn, Klingel, a son-in-law, John Quick, two brothers, Albert and Charles Klingel, and a sister, Edna Zimmerman.


He is survived by his wife, Ione J., nee Bieser, Klingel, whom he married in St. Louis, MO on Nov. 29, 1942; a son, Gary (Sharron) Klingel of Princeton, IL; a daughter, Rhonda Quick of Crystal Lake, IL; three grandsons, Gregory (Christine) Klingel, Shawn (Julie) Klingel and Ryan (Emily) Quick; four great grandchildren, Holden and Graham Klingel and Henry and Delia Quick; and also survived by nieces and nephews.


Memorials may be made to St. John U.C.C., Mascoutah, or a charity of donor’s choice.


Visitation: visitation will be from 9 to 11 AM Saturday, Apr. 23, 2011 at St. John U.C.C. in Mascoutah, IL.


Funeral: funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, Apr. 23, 2011 at St. John U.C.C. in Mascoutah with the Rev. Hugh Fitz officiating. Burial will follow in the Mascoutah City Cemetery.
