Leo A. Haas

Leo A. Haas, 75, of Mascoutah, IL, born Aug. 20, 1935 in Mascoutah, died Saturday, Apr. 30, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.


Leo retired from Valley Steel as a truck driver after 38 years; was a member of Teamsters Local 688; Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah; Mascoutah Moose Lodge 815 where he was past Governor; was past president and member of the MIA; former member of the Park Board and Leu Civic Center Board; was involved in numerous community projects, and served in the U. S. Air Force Reserves from 1958 to 1964.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian M., nee Kolb, Haas, who he married in Mascoutah on June 6, 1957, and who died June 13, 2001; his parents, Erwin and Elvira, nee Huber, Haas; a brother, Eugene Haas; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Vavrinek and Wayne Cooper.


He is survived by three children, Steven (Angela) Haas, Sarah Haas, and Michael (fiancé Michelle Richards) Haas, all of Mascoutah, IL; two grandchildren, Ginni Lynn (Paul) Bernard of Mascoutah, and Devin Michael Haas of Mascoutah; three step-grandchildren, Hannah, Dylan, and Shane Richards of Mascoutah; a step-great-grandson, Riley Stott of Mascoutah; two sisters, RoseMary Cooper of Mascoutah, and Dorothy (Jim) Puhl of Bedford, TX; a brother-in-law, George Kolb of Mascoutah; special friend, Rosie Altman of New Baden, IL; nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 PM Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. A Moose Ritual will be held at 7 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.


Funeral: A funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah, with Father Abraham Adejoh officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
