Lawrence H. Yates, 79, of Summerfield, IL, born Oct. 5, 1932 in Washington County, MO, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Lawrence served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a Bronze Star recipient. He later worked at Modern Sanitation, Laidlaw Bus, Bi-State Bus, Lebanon School District, Riteway Excavating, and was the Mayor of Summerfield for six years.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Sarah, nee Dearing, Yates; a son, Gary; a daughter, Sandy; three brothers, Chester, Charles, and Thurl.
He is survived by his wife, Melva, nee Missey, Yates who he married in Mascoutah, IL on Feb. 23, 1954; two sons, Lonnie (Jiers) Yates, and Marty Yates; two daughters, Patricia (Greg) Newcomb, and Mona (Vince) Frazier; six grandchildren, Laura, Lacey, Shawn, James, Gail, and Mechelle; 10 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Chloe, Jeremy, Aarionna, Shelby, Dannicca, Tristtin, McKenzie, Lucus, and Kaden; a brother, Gerald Yates of Missouri; three sisters, Annabelle Coleman, Betty Labbee, and Norma (Ab) Micke all of Missouri.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 at the Moll Funeral Home with Sylvia Pendegraft officiating. Interment will be in Summerfield Cemetery, Summerfield, IL.
