SMSgt Fletcher Lee Barren, (Ret) 76, of Belleville, IL, born October 17, 1935 in Mobile, AL, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Fletcher retired as a SMSgt from the United States Air Force after 31 years of dedicated service. After his military service, he worked and retired as a Housing Inspector for HUD in Columbus, OH.  He was a member of the VFW Post 3764, American Legion Post 430, and Retired Armed Forces Association (RAFA) in Columbus, OH, as well as a member of the VFW Post 8677 in Fairview Heights, IL.  He was a Korean and Vietnam War Veteran.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Napoleon B. and Hannah L., nee Roberts, Barren; a son, Alan A. Barren; a daughter, Valarie L. Barren; and brothers, James and Nathaniel Barren.

Fletcher is survived by his wife, Sylvia C., nee Jones, Barren who he married in Kansas City, KS on June 16, 1957; three children, MSgt Doris E. Barren, (Ret) of Belleville, IL, Gregory L. Barren of Portland, OR, and Daphne E. (Tracy) Byers of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Markita L. (Matt) Suttle of Columbus, OH, SSgt  Javawn M. Morris, (Ret) of Belleville, IL, Quinton A. Byers of Columbus, OH, and Quierston A. Byers of Columbus, OH; five siblings, Mary Colston, Pearlie Ellis, Edna Robins, Ernest Barren all of Mobile, AL; and Amy Wright of Plant City, FL; brother and sister-in-laws, CWO3 Terry Jones (Ret), Marilyn Murphy, MSgt Ramona Green (Ret), Karita (Charles) Crews, and Craig (Vernesa) Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Visitation:  will be held from 10 AM to 12 Noon Thursday, Apr. 5, 2012 at the Moll Funeral Home, Mascoutah, IL.

Funeral:  funeral services will be held 12 Noon Thursday, Apr. 5, 2012 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah with Elder Lillie Sexton officiating.  Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
