Joseph C. “Doc” Petz, D.D.S., 83, of Mascoutah, IL, born May 15, 1928 in Dunkirk, NY died Thursday, April 26, 2012.
Joseph served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 – 1948. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY with a B.S. degree in biology. He graduated from St. Louis University Dental School in 1957. Joseph was a dentist in Mascoutah where he practiced for 33 years. He was a member of Holy Childhood of Jesus Church in Mascoutah, a past Eucharistic Minister, past member of the Holy Childhood School Board, past president, treasurer and secretary of the St. Clair County Dental Society, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Mascoutah Moose.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Loretta, nee Lawrence, Petz and a sister-in-law, Catherine Young.
He is survived by his wife Catherine J., nee Young, Petz whom he married in St. Louis, MO on Aug. 25, 1956; five sons and two daughters, Michael (Cathy) Petz of Fairview Heights, IL and their children, Nicholas and Jennifer; Dr. Major Lawrence (Sharlynne) Petz of San Antonio, TX and their children Jacquelynn and Rachel; John (Kelly) Petz of California, MD; Mary Catherine “Katy” (Dennis) Brown, Jr. of Mascoutah, IL and their children, Jacob (Katie) Knipp and great-granddaughter, Kara, Jordan Knipp, Joel and Jenna Olivia Brown; William (Julie) Petz of New Baden, IL and their children Eric and Brad Deterding and Jackson Petz; Robert Petz and fiancé Mary Gaston of Belleville, IL; Susan (Dr. Ronald) Ames of Belleville, IL and their children, Savannah, Halle and Callison; a sister, Carol (John) Park of Kenmore, NY; a brother-in-law, Dr. Paul A. Young of St. Louis, MO; a sister-in-law, Mary Berilla of Kirkwood, MO; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials may be made to Holy Childhood Memorial Improvement Fund.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL. There will be a prayer service at 3:45 PM Monday.
Funeral: A funeral mass will be held 9:30 AM Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church with the Msgr. Jerome Hartlein and Father Von Deeke officiating. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO
