James Clyde Schlesinger

James Clyde Schlesinger, 76, of Fayetteville, IL, born May 20, 1935 in Belleville, IL, died Friday, Apr. 6, 2012 in his sleep at his home in Fayetteville, IL.

He was a retired truck driver from Beelman Trucking; formerly worked for Peabody River King Underground Mine in Freeburg; and he formerly owned and operated Clarence and Clyde’s Service Station in Freeburg, IL. Clyde was a member of the Belleville First Assembly of God Church; life member of Freeburg Masonic Lodge #418 AF & AM; was a Fayetteville Township trustee; member of the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Dept; and a former trustee for the Village of Fayetteville. He served in the US Marines during the Korean War and later served in the US Army reserves.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan E., nee Schneider, Schlesinger whom he married on July 9, 1955 and who died Dec. 30, 1990; his parents, George and Hester, nee Roney, Schlesinger; three brothers-in-law, Darrel Giles, Gene Weipert, and Gordon "Corky" Sloop; and a sister-in-law, Norma Marler.

He is survived by his second wife, Mary Ann E., nee Jokisch, Schlesinger who he married in Las Vegas, NV on Nov. 29, 1996; a son, James (Laurie) Schlesinger of Belleville, IL; two stepchildren, Judy (Larry) Darnell of Dardenne Prairie, MO and Michael (Robin) Hamann of Belleville, IL; three grandchildren, Tamara (Jeremy) Thayer of Duluth, GA, Tara and Jordyn Schlesinger of Belleville, IL; a great- grandchild, Parker Thayer; two step-grandchildren, Jeremy and Alysha Darnell of Dardenne Prairie, MO; three sisters, Nancy Giles of Georgetown, KY, Sue Weipert of Klammoth Falls, OR, and Mary (Russ) Whaley of Vancouver, WA; a brother-in-law and best friend, Clarence Marler of Fayetteville, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Belleville First Assembly of God Church, 900 Fair Oaks Dr., Belleville, IL 62221.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 9 PM Tuesday, Apr. 10, 2012 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL; and from 10 to 11 AM Wednesday, Apr. 11, 2012 at the Belleville First Assembly of God Church. There will be a Masonic Service 7 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, Apr. 11, 2012 at the Belleville First Assembly of God Church with Pastor David Raynaud officiating. Burial will be in Trinity UCC Cemetery, Fayetteville, IL.
