 Marjorie Backs

 

 

   Marjorie Backs, nee Engelmann, 77, of Aviston, IL, formerly of New Memphis, IL, born Mar. 17, 1932 in Addieville, IL, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at the Aviston Countryside Manor, Aviston, IL. 

   She worked as a seamstress for Martha Manning Dress Factory in Mascoutah; ran an in-home daycare; worked in the Activity Department at the Grange Nursing Home in Mascoutah; and was a homemaker.  She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mascoutah, IL, and past member of Zion Ladies’ Aid.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, William C. and Minna A., nee Kraus, Engelmann; her husband, Milton R. Backs whom she married in Addieville, IL on Dec. 22, 1951 and who died Feb. 10, 2001; a brother, James Engelmann, and a brother-in-law, Irwin Backs.

   She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Ann Backs and Linda Kay Backs both of New Memphis, IL; a special friend, Gina Rakers of Indianapolis, IN; a sister, Bernice Engelmann of Albers, IL; a brother, William (Joyce) Engelmann of Centralia, IL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marie Engelmann of Nashville, IL, Darleen Backs of Okawville, IL, Alvin and Doris Backs of O’Fallon, IL, and Mary Ann and Donald Steinkamp of Belleville, IL; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, a great great-niece, great great-nephews, cousins and many friends.

   Visitation:  Friends may call from 4 to 7:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church, Mascoutah, IL.

   Funeral:  A funeral service will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mascoutah with Rev. Kirk M. Clayton officiating.  A private graveside service will be held Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009 in Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery, Addieville, IL.
