Martha A. Wolfersberger

Martha A. Wolfersberger, nee Goestenkors, 96, of Mascoutah, IL, born Apr. 2, 1917 in St. Rose, IL, died Monday, July 29, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center of Swansea, IL.

Martha was a homemaker and member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah, IL. She took pride in her house and yard. Her family always looked forward to receiving a tin of her chocolate chip cookies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter F. Wolfersberger whom she married in Pierron, IL on Apr. 26, 1939 and who died Sept. 9, 1988; her parents, Stephen and Anna, nee Poettker, Goestenkors; five brothers and two sisters, Frank (Pauline) Goestenkors, Edward (Alice) Goestenkors, Vincent (Eleanor) Goestenkors, Albin (Valeria “Fay”) Goestenkors, William (Jeanne) Goestenkors, Alma (Bill) Schrage, and Bertha (Richard) Schulte.

She is survived by six children, Phyllis (Lester) Wesolik of Belleville, IL, Barbara (Terry) Knox of Four Seasons, MO, Robert (Donna) Wolfersberger of St. Louis, MO, Catherine (John) Carpenter of Belleville, IL, Thomas Wolfersberger of Pembroke Pines, FL, and Richard (Anne) Wolfersberger of Bakersfield, CA; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Martha’s family thanks the staff at Rosewood Care Center and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful and compassionate care they gave her during her stay.

Memorials may be made in Martha’s name to Holy Childhood Catholic School Endowment Fund; or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Visitation: There will be no visitation.

Funeral: A private funeral Mass will be held at Holy Childhood Catholic Church with Msgr. Jerome Hartlein officiating. Burial will be in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery in Mascoutah, IL.
